Curator's Statement
My gallery is about the Third Wave of Feminism Movement, which is a movement that encompasses multiple types of discrimination into one movement. I personally think that this movement is extremely important, because it allows for one to advocate for not only ciswomen’s rights, but also the rights of women of color and trans and queer women. Additionally, today’s society is plagued with some many issues that it would be both impossible and stupid to create thousands of separate movements for one topic. Thus, the Third Wave Movement is the umbrella over all of the sub-interconnected topics having to do with women’s rights. Furthermore, it has been proved that those who work together end up more successful in the end than those who work alone. Grouping all of these types of discrimination together would entice the advocates and advocacy groups to also work together, which in the end would result in more changes happening in society than if they were to work alone. The Third Wave Movement, when analyzed with an anthropological lens, is describing gender as a social construct and that gender intersects with other relations of power. Finally, I would like for my gallery visitors to focus on how the Third Wave Movement encompasses different aspects of gender justice and also how the different organizations work to help make this movement successful.
